Chocolate Rough Slice

Ingredients

Base

  • 1 cup self-raising flour
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa
  • 1/3 cup caster sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • ¼ cup desiccated coconut
  • 110g butter (melted) – NB: MUST MELT!

Topping

  • 200g can condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 cup icing sugar
  • 1½ tablespoons butter (melted) – NB: MUST MELT!
  • 1 cup desiccated coconut
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (fan-forced).
  2. Grease or line a slice tin with baking paper.
  3. In a bowl (medium size is fine) sift the flour and cocoa.  
  4. Add the caster sugar, salt, coconut and butter.  Mix to combine.
  5. Press base mixture into a prepared slice tin.
  6. Bake the base in the oven for 18-20 minutes or until golden and cooked through.
  7. Rest in the tray for 5 minutes, before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. Make the topping by mixing all topping ingredients in a bowl.
  9. Spread the topping over the warm base and leave on a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

NB: This recipe makes a slice able to be cut into 24 squares.  This recipe is a huge hit in our family – very much loved recipe!
