GDEALER Meat Thermometer Unboxing and Review

°Today I have put together a quick unboxing and my initial review of the GDEALER Meat Thermometer. I placed the order via AMAZON on February 13th and the package arrived February 27th – I am not disappointed,14 calendar days from order to delivery is not too bad.

Packaging

For this type of product, the outer packaging was your standard A4 padded envelope which was more than enough to keep the unit protected for the journey from the USA to Australia. The inner packaging is a nice cardboard box with a decent foam insert to keep it protected. At this price point, the packaging exceeded my expectations.

Physical form and “feel”

The unit feels nice and solid, the probe is quite tight to extend and the buttons feel ok. I presume the probe extension will get easier with more movement. The probe itself is pretty sturdy looking, decent shaft and smaller contact tip.

Responsiveness

Initial tests in a glass of ice water and a mug of freshly boiled water registered the final temperature within the stated 3-4s range. Certainly an improvement from my existing unit that takes 10-15s to stabilise at temperature.

Calibration out of the box

Testing the unit as per the calibration instructions, indicated that it was within 2.3°C degrees of 0°C . To bring it back into calibration was as easy as pressing 2 buttons.

Please make a cup of ice-water by filling a cup with ice and topping it off with water, and insert the probe so that it’s touching the ice (make sure the probe touches the ice under water). When the temperature reading reaches a stable temperature, hold down the “CAL” key for 5 seconds. After 5 seconds, the display will flash “CALL” on the screen, and will flash the temperature reading. Use the C/F key to increase the temperature reading or the “HOLD” key to decrease it until you reach 0°C or 32°F.Note: Make sure that the ice water has time to reach its coldest and that the probe is touching the ice. Otherwise, you may get an “ERR” message if the temperature is not at freezing.

Conclusion so far…

I paid US$18.18 delivered for the unit, so far I am very impressed. It exceeds my expectations for the price point. The build quality feels nice, the responsiveness seems to be right on. I hope my view remains that way over the coming months. Like anything, the true test is over time. I will be sure to do an update in the coming months as to the longevity of the device.

I rate this one 4.5/5

Update: For my readers based in Australia you can now buy this through www.amazon.com.au

At the time of writing this it appeared to be more expensive than the US store
