Tex-Mex BBQ Rub
A Tex-Mex rub is a blend of spices that adds a southwestern flavor to beef or any other type of meat. Here’s a recipe for a Tex-Mex rub that can be used on beef or any other type of meat.
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 2 tablespoons cumin
- 2 tablespoons smoked paprika
- 2 tablespoons garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 2 teaspoons dried cilantro (optional)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, mix together all ingredients until well blended.
- Rub the blend all over the beef or any other type of meat, covering it completely.
- Let the meat sit in the refrigerator for at least an hour, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat your grill or smoker to the desired temperature and cook the meat according to your preference.
The chili powder and cumin give it a smoky and slightly spicy flavor, the smoked paprika gives it a more robust smokiness and the garlic and onion powder adds a nice depth of flavor. The oregano and cilantro give it a distinctive southwestern flavor. You can adjust the amount of chili powder to your desired level of heat. Also, you could add some lime juice or orange juice to the rub to give it a more citrusy flavor.
